This song reminds me of San Luis Obispo. More specifically my last three months in San Luis Obispo. We were playing it constantly around mid-March and never really stopped. I reminds me a lot of driving the 101 to work or to the Black Sheep for lunch with Nicole. Or driving home from the Grad late at night and hearing it on the station. Sitting after hours chatting with a friend until my phone would ring to snap me out of it...
This is the last song I heard while actually in San Luis Obispo. I was at that 76 station on S. Higuera and had just filled my car up and stepped into my car and there it was. I remember reaching for my phone to text someone and then thinking that no, I had to get on this freeway all by myself and go. And I did.
I know, I know, I'm crazy to try to keep both of these meme's going at the same time, but at least it makes me blog a few times a week, which is good for me.

I first heard this song back when I was a senior in high school. This guy I knew was also a DJ and did some club stuff as well. We used to talk on the phone quite a bit and he was always telling me music I should listen to and this was a song he said reminded him of me. The first time I heard it, I was hooked. Great stuff. There's a cover of it by Jesus on Ecstasy that's pretty bad ass too.

Today is the one year anniversary of Michael Jackon's death. I can't say I was a huge Michael Jackson fan growing up. I recognized good music and that he made amazing videos and was a great dancer but I was more of a Prince kid.
However I do remember where I was when we heard that he died. I was sitting in the Black Sheep with Kristin and Todd and we were getting ready to go see Transformers 2 (which in hindsight we should've just stayed at Black Sheep watching CNN.) It was just one of those surreal moments that you will always kind of remember where you were. And that's where I was.

I had my first day on the air here in Chico today and while there were some hiccups and a few technical boo boo's I made it through and even got some nice comments from some listeners. So I guess I live to fight another day.
I posted about starting my job at WiLD awhile back and how weird it was. I mean previous to walking into that building, I had never worked anywhere less than seven years. Seriously, I was at both of my previous clusters for seven years a piece and when I walked into the building out on Buckley a year ago, I wondered if that was where I was going to spend the next seven years of my life.
As it turns out it wasn't, even though some of the friendships I built there, I can't imagine my life without them now... So here I am less than a year later, starting all over again. Life's a trip that way.
I still miss everyone back home terribly. Like more than you could imagine and more than I will ever admit, lest you Central Coasters get swelled heads. But today was probably the first day since I've been here that I felt in control of the things I'm supposed to be in control of and I wonder if being on the air was the missing piece since I got here. Probably, I'm a freakin' ham. Since I don't know anyone here yet, might as well talk to the microphone, right?
Next I just really want my house unpacked and set up. I want the epic amount of laundry I have to wash to be cleaned. I want my cable and internet on (although presently I'd settle for having my television plugged in and the dvd player set up!) and I want a bed. I'll get all the other pesky things... friends, a social life, a hang out, a favorite sushi joint... it will all come in time.
Or if I remain as exhausted as I am today, that stuff won't matter anyway, so either way, it's a win-win situation. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a hard earned glass of wine waiting for me at my house, along side of 98089787 boxes I still need to unpack.

I was told the Deftones aren't popular in Northern California. I find this odd. Anyway, I love this band. I've seen them play about 10 times at least, and would love to check out the tour for the newest album. We'll see how things go.

I was at the Food For Less yesterday and noticed that there are two liter bottles of Crush on the market. You might remember this soda from the 80's.
When I was a kid, my grandpa used to take me to this place in a town called Pumpkin Center. It was a feed store. Yes a feed store, we had cows, wanna fight about it?
Anyway this feed store was in my little kids mind enormous and had all kinds of weird stuff in it, that I couldn't find a use for. I mean I was six or something. I have no idea why we were at the feed store. I just know my grandpa seemed to know everyone, much like when we'd go to the "junk sale" on Sundays. And at the end of the feed store outing, I'd get to get a soda out of the soda machine that sold glass bottles. Seriously, these things existed in the world.
My favorite was always Cherry Crush, followed by Orange and in extreme emergencies, Grape, but usually if it was left between Grape and Coke, I'd just get the Coke. I'd pop the top on the little bottle opener and then it'd be off to the pick up truck to take whatever contraption or food we'd bought back to my grandparents house, sometimes even listening to 8-track tapes.
I bought a two liter of this Cherry Crush yesterday, and it's really sweet and not in a glass bottle but if I close my eyes really tight and take a sip, I smell hay and I smell home.
It's no secret, I listen to A LOT of music. Since dropping in and joining the 95.3 The Beach / WiLD 1061 family I've had my ears exposed to tons of new stuff I probably wouldn't have listened to before.
My most recent find came through a friend posting a remix of La Roux "Bulletproof" by a group called Hyper Crush. So I started going through youtube and these guys are a lot of fun if you like dance music, which as it turns out my Top 40 roots never left me, and I do like dance music, a lot.

I heard this song driving home from work a few weeks ago and just fell in love with it. There's a lot of haters out there saying bringing Haley in is sort of a sell out move, but I don't think so.
B.O.B's new album "The Adventures of Bobby Ray," is out now and also features a song with Rivers Cuomo from Weezer, which I can't wait to hear.

M.I.A just put this out. Youtube banned it. Her record company Universal has a deal with Youtube and didn't throw their weight behind her. M.I.A went to Pitchfork and they let her use their twitter account to go crazy about it.

Yes this video is offensive. Duh, Middle America, it's supposed to be. The rounding up and execution of any segment of humanity is pretty freakin' offensive and yet it still happens. This isn't some future warning. This isn't a parable about the past, this is still happening in countries everywhere.
To a degree, it happens here. Look around, people are being denied rights because some dude somewhere decided they aren't worthy of them because of the color of their skin, the people they love, etc. So M.I.A's video show's this "ridiculous" vision of people with Red Hair being demonized. I'm sorry, but I don't see that as being very far off from anything that's currently happening in the world right now.
Judging anyone because their DIFFERENT than you is just, well stupid, like banning this video, which I completely believe is art. Good on M.I.A.
On that note, I'd like to hear the original version of the song, because I know it's not 10 minutes long.
I realize I'm late to the party on this, but this song is currently one of my favorite songs out there. I was just reminded in the hallway between our two stations. I don't know if it's Adam's performance or the words or what, but this is the perfect storm of pop.
I know it's been awhile since I blogged and awhile since I've posted any pictures. Hopefully you'll forgive me and start coming back again.
Basically life got in the way, very busy at the station and my computer at home is kind of a piece if you know what I mean.

Another appearance from the Dropkick Murphys. "For Boston" is the Boston College fight song, and in this video you'll see them on stage at the now defunct Avalon in Boston, on St Patrick's Day with the Boston Police Department's bagpipe band. Cool. Actually I have it on good authority that the BPD out there is pretty cool, as are the fire department. That and endless pictures of friends posing with them while drunk...

I love U2 which I know to some people makes me a dork, but they're definitely the biggest band to ever come out of Ireland. This is a gorgeous song. Listen, love it. Be happy!

These guys have to write the best drinking songs ever. You know, after Dropkick.
9- Dropkick Murphys - "Tessie"
While this song is about baseball (hey spring training just started, go Red Sox!) you drink beer at baseball games, making this count.

8- House of Pain - "Shamrocks and Shenanigans" (Butch Vig Remix)
I like the original version of this song too but the Butch Vig remix makes me want to turn over cars and light trash cans on fire. I don't know why, but it do. So here you go.
Aside from the singer of this band once being very rude to a friend of mine, I enjoy the Street Dogs and their music. This is an especially good one for St Patrick's Day.
I love Morrissey, that's no joke. So to leave this song off this countdown would be absurd. "Irish Blood, English Heart" focuses on Morrissey's joint Irish/English heritage and was also his first single in over seven years when released. If you ever get a chance to see him in concert, do it. I took my dad a few years ago for Father's Day and it remains one of his favorite gifts! (You know, unless hell ever froze over and there was a Smiths reunion.)
Number 22: Morrissey - "Irish Blood, English Heart"
Number 22 comes to us from Kings Cross, North London. The Pogues play pretty much the most Irish of Irish music. Shane MacGowan, the singer and songwriter of the group is a pretty wild guy and has a very interesting history. More recently he worked on a song with the Dropkick Murphys for their album "Blackout," and I'm sure that collaboration will see the light of day on this countdown before it's through.
So the countdown to St Patrick's Day continues. I love Sinead O'Connor. Most people just remember her as that bald chick who ripped up a picture of the Pope on Saturday Night Live and pissed off Frank Sinatra, but she's been making music since then, if you don't know. And it's brilliant. There's more to Sinead than "Nothing Compares 2 U"
