some of my favorite songs of 2009

Tegan and Sara "Don't Rush," doesn't sound anything like I thought they would on this song. I just heard this for the first time earlier this month and I love it.

Depeche Mode is one of my all time favorite bands as most people know. This song/video blew my socks off when I first heard it earlier this year. I got to see them play again back in August and it was in fact, awesome.

It is no secret that I've been on a bit of a Lady Gaga kick recently and really think "The Fame Monster" was one of the most pleasent surprises of 2009. Almost every song on it has the potential to be a monster at radio. Plus this video? Insanely cool.

Happy Holidays

So I've been lacking a little holiday spirit this year for many reasons, mostly that Christmas isn't really my thing to begin with but money, being busy and it just not feeling like Christmas hasn't helped much either.

But yesterday I got a Christmas Miracle of being able to shop for my family and a few of my friends and today I went out and picked up a few things and I am feeling a little less doom and gloom about the holiday season than I was last week.

I know Christmas isn't about presents but it does make me feel good to be able to make the people in my life that I love know that I appreciate them and love them as well.

In case you don't hear from me until after the holidays (yeah right, I'm a total blabbermouth) have a safe and wonderful Christmas.

xoxo
Stephanie

Brittany Murphy

Yesterday I read the very sad news of Brittany Murphy's passing online before I headed out for the day. I have to say the news weighed on my mind pretty much all day even though I didn't know her at all. I was however a fan, and I wondered what happened that could have caused this.

Last night I came home and watched "Clueless" for the first time since high school graduation and was surprised I'd forgotten just how cute and funny she is in that movie. And then I realized how many movies that I own and love that she's in like "Sin City," and "Girl Interrupted," and just how sad the whole thing was.

This morning I was online trolling twitter and saw that Jojo had posted this video and I'd never seen it before and liked it so much that I figured I'd share it with you.

Why yes that is Brittany singing. I never knew that she did that. Plus how gorgeous is she in it? So freakin' sad.

I'm ready for 2009 to take a big hike already. This year is depressing.

how did they get a picture of me at the Grad

I mean really? That game yesterday was a cluster and a half. Painful to watch. I think I might be breaking up with the Hawks until next year. Maybe....

my iPhone and me, a love love relationship

I just got a new app for my iPhone that I am in love with. It takes regular iPhone pictures and turns them in to "polaroids" which is endlessly awesome to me. It also changes the quality of the photo to be more like the old instant cameras. I've been playing with it all day and figured, why not share some of the stuff I've made

The original of this was taken sometime over the summer.

A few months ago I had a glass of wine up on a neighbors deck, this is when the original of this shot was taken.

The mixing board at Mo/Tav one night a few months ago.

It turns out my BFF Hello Kitty is lending her image to the horrendous Snuggie.

I have no words to describe my abject disappointment on this subject.

blowing minds one at a time

A few years ago my friend Tristan came back from a trip to some country where he didn't have cell service and proceeded to tell me about a mythical song called "Atomic Food," which we promptly youtubed to find and play with until we were basically stupider than when we started.

Fast forward to the year 2009. I am working in a building with a pop/top 40 station in it and we play this Akon song called "Sexy Bitch," or "Sexy Chick," if you're doing the radio edit.

As it turns out... yes in fact that is the same David Guetta. My mind is blown up this morning. Long live the internet for giving me this information!

scenes from the radio world

Jojo and Donelle reading a commercial for me in the production studio

T-Rawk, Donelle and I at Marti's in SLO after work. I do believe we are the Fly Girls, except for Donelle, who is a boy

I don't know what he said, but I can guess, I'm sure.

I love that I love the people I work with. It makes going to work extra fun.

Raining again

Not that you can tell from this picture of the building next door, but it's raining pretty hard here in SLO today. Loud enough I can hear it through my studio window. It also appears to make the airplanes taking off next door louder and angrier. Interesting.

Strange things you find

So earlier today I was cleaning all the various little slips of paper and crap out of my purse during my break at work and I found a business card I had picked up during my trip home to visit my folks. I had sort of forgotten about it, but it turns out I had a conversation and a drink with a guy that runs a porn website.

Yeah. A porn website, with a name I can't even repeat here!

For the record he was super nice and didn't talk to me about anything other than promotion and radio, but still kind of funny to think I sat at the bar with my dad and some dude that runs a porn website over the holidays.

The thing you should take away from this story is that my life, it's never boring.

i went home for the holidays

Sorry I haven't been posting, I was gone to see some family. So here are some images....

Me and two old school radio friends of mine The Real Bruce Wayne and Joe Brown

The parents

My cat Azriel who not only loves the Boston Red Sox, he also only loves my dad. Which is why he doesn't live with me.
Central Coast wines in the Valley.

My favorite self portrait as of late. This is another of my dad's cats, Cheddarbob who is a love whore and probably an allergists worst nightmare. This is also the blog debut of my new haircut from the lovely Erika at Cost Cutters in SLO.

creeper

If you're friends with me, you've already seen this creeper all up in your news feed being... creepy.

The origins of the mannequin are suspect as you would imagine. I found her outside of a friend's birthday party in Nipomo over the weekend, wearing a sundress and carrying a Disney princess balloon. Needless to say... "what?"

More sushi

Went to Sushiya again this weekend. I'm a bad person.

Did I mention I'm hungry right now? Because I am.

Something I want to try

A friend of mine just pointed me towards Project 365.

Since I pretty much already take a photo a day anyway, why not share it with you? So this is my New Years resolution for 2010. I will take a photo a day and share it here.

Won't you join me?

Happy Birthday Soozin

This is my friend Soozin. I've known her since she was in high school (notice I didn't say we, she's younger than me!) Yesterday was her 25th birthday and we celebrated in high style. And by that I mean we ate sushi and booze soaked fruit and partied like it was... well her birthday.
It was a great Friday and I was so happy to see her. I love this girl. Today it's off to Nipomo to celebrate another friend's birthday. November is a busy time for Stephanie's.

Sunshine

I hate that it gets dark so early now. By the time I leave the station, the day is done. So in an effort to bring in the sun, here's some sunflower pictures I snapped over the summer on my iPhone.

A view from my home office

A few days ago I got DSL out at the old homestead which resulted in my needing to move my computer and rearrange some stuff. So I went ahead and reorganized my bulletin board/desk area as well.

You can see Hello Kitty/Sanrio figures pretty heavily into my office area. As well as music related keepsakes and photos. While the Giants calendar isn't mine, I didn't mind October at all, since it was the month that Brian Wilson was the featured player. (ha ha)

So what's your desk area like? What inspires you? Post a picture or just share a little. Let's call it audience participation....

Girly Weekend Sushi Fest

My friend Amber came to visit this weekend and we did the one thing we always do when she visits, and that's hit Sushiya in SLO hard.

This was the sake the waitress recommended to Amber. I don't drink sake so I skipped it.

Scallops!

Amber's Eel Nigiri

My yellowtail and salmon nigiri

Amber's octopus nigri. I'm kind of a wuss when it comes to eating anything with suckers on it though...

After a relaxing sushi lunch we got our nails done and then got dressed up and went out for cocktails. Sometimes I'm such a girl it's stupid. But alternately the next morning I put my Seahawks jersey on and went to watch them beat the Lions over at the Graduate. All in all it was a good weekend. I capped it off with the Teenage Bottle Rockets at Downtown Brew last night.

Today I'm meeting one of my other BFF's, Michael for some bonding time after work. It's looking like a decent week so far.

Happy Birthday United Germany!

Twenty years ago today I was awake and getting ready for school. Then my mom said I didn't have to go, because what was happening on TV was even more important than anything I would learn in the 4th grade that day. We turned on the tv and watched as the Berlin Wall was torn down.

It was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. This song was inspired by it.

My sandwhich has an attitude problem

I'm just kidding. Treehugger is a veggie sandwhich that they make over at Stacked Sandwhiches in Grover Beach. My girl Teresa suggested it to me when she went out to get lunch for the office and it's really good. Although I'm a stick in the mud and got mine without avacado.

I photo shop things

When I got my iPhone awhile back I downloaded an app called ColorSplash that is sort of a mini photo shop. For your phone. Here's some stuff I've done with it.

Happy Halloween

Sorry, I've been a bad blogger lately. I currently do not have internet at home, and living where I do that even makes blogging from my phone hard. However I had to make a run into work today for something and figured I'd take a moment to share some Halloween goodness with you.

Some of my favorite music is from the Halloween season. Now before I continue, I have to warn you... I was a big gothic nerd child / punk kid/ rock chick for a hot minute, so some of this stuff might be loud and crass (lol not the band) and not what you would normally hear in an office or public, so be warned.

That being said, let's party.

"Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus is by far one of the greatest and campiest songs ever. If this song doesn't make you want to eat some candy corn or carve a pumpkin, I quit.

"Marian" by Sisters of Mercy. Again another great song but this guy's voice just yells Halloween, spooky and delicious.

Christian Death covering the Velvet Underground. Delicious. There are better Christian Death songs, but I'll let you find those on your own. Mostly because I can't be responsible for the content. Ha ha.

Finally here's what I went as to a party last night. Yes I took this in my bathroom.

Have a great holiday. Call a cab if you need it.

Gifts

So if you follow me on twitter you know that my good friend Teresa (aka @tlsquared) works here as well. After watching me jam my sort of expensive headphones (okay pretty darn expensive) into my purse day after day because I don't have a locker here or anything, so decided enough was enough and made me a bag for my "cans," as the radio folks like to call them.

This is so awesome. And better than the whole sticking them in a Crown Royale bag as radio jocks are want to do, because my headphones are too big for a standard Crown bag.

This has always been pretty funny to me since I pretty much have unlimited access to Crown bags since my stepmom works in a bar. I really should just start reselling them to other DJ's.

Went to Marti's for football on Sunday and saw a guy in bunny slippers.
