tokens...

I love this song because it really does capture the point of being in love with someone where logic and ration goes out the window. Love is not always logical. Mostly it's not. Mostly it's messy and strange and crazy and the most illogical of all emotions humans feel.

But it's wonderful too. To be loved. To love someone... It's a wonderful thing. I'm terrible at it, but I've seen other people do it really well. I wonder if there is a class on this... I mean come on there was one at the community college back home on how to start a blog! (What was the first step? Pull your head out of your ass and log onto the internet?)

Crazy thing is I'm not even bitter at the moment. I have no reason to be in this department. I just realized over the weekend that I'm not the easiest girl to love sometimes. I'm messy when I'm overworked (that's all of the time pretty much,) I'm not fantastic with money. I can be a flake when I just do not feel like doing something. I'm geeky and love childish things. I'm overly social and I talk a lot. I get my feelings hurt sometimes, very easily. I'm a crazy perfectionist when it comes to work. I swear too much. I forget to wear make up as often as I remember to wear it. I love my cat A LOT. I have a lot of male friends. I'm overly loyal to friends as well and that's caused problems. I'm driven and ambitious and busy an awful lot. I like going out with my friends. I don't ask permission to do things, because I don't need it.

But I'd like to think that some people find all of the reasons I was "the worst girlfriend in the world" to some of my exs, these things make me amazing. Or you know, not intolerable.

mushy

There's something about Ben that turns me into a mush monster. Seriously. I am not a giggly crushy crush girl but I do in fact have a crush on my boyfriend. He came over last night and we had dinner and cocktails and I watched "The Walking Dead" while he graded papers.

Do you know how cute it is to watch your man grade papers? It's damn cute. I never thought I'd be a girl with a boyfriend who grades papers on her couch. He has a red pen and everything. What?

Or there are times when he is saying something incredibly odd and that I'm pretty sure most people would just go "What the eff?" and I just laugh. I like how quirky he is and I like that he's quick to laugh and always smiles for me. He never thinks anything I have to say is weird and once told me "Everything you do is so cool."

Trust me a girl likes hearing that.

This is a guy who brought me warm socks and pastries at my biggest event ever. He took care of me when I got home and was sore beyond all reason. He surprises me sometimes by taking out my trash or loading my dishwasher. I'll come dragging home from work after he's stayed here only to find a dishwasher full of clean glasses and spoons and my pots and pans soaking in the sink to make it easier on me to load them later. He plays with my cat (she still likes the fishing pole game) because "Mommy" is boring and usually just wants to pet her. He's a stuff fixer.

In short, we are very happy. He said to me once that I am his best friend and I think that's pretty rad.

im a sick bitch baby

So I seem to have some summer allergy attack and or a cold right now because my throat is all sore and swollen. Great.

This naturally led to me having one of those "Oh my god I'm 400 miles away from anyone who would bring me soup or notice if I croaked" moments last night and I slept like crap because of it. Awesome.

It's not that I really think I'm going to die of a sore throat or that I'm a needy girl by any means, but when I don't feel good, sometimes I'd like someone to take care of me. And in the moment I realized I had no one here I could ask for a hug or to buy me some soup or bring me some juice... I felt pretty lonely for the first time since getting here. Such is an occupational hazard of living on the moon.

I ended up talking to Teresa on the phone for awhile last night and Jennifer online and I felt a little bit better.

As evidenced by my post yesterday I'm a little homesick these days. It's not like when I moved from Bakersfield and I could just get up and go home any time I wanted. There's definitely some logicistal night mare ish to get home from here.

This month would've been my year anniversary at Mapleton. Weird.

going to the Chico DMV

I know, I know, no one likes going to the DMV. But the Chico DMV is a special kind of hell I didn't think existed.

For one it takes FOREVER, like even in DMV terms. From the time I got my number to the time I was called it was over an hour. An hour, of sitting amongst some of the scariest people that Chico has offered me so far.

There were the usual people you see when you head out to any kind of public agency. Sure they can't dress themselves, they're wearing sweats in public or haven't bathed in good hot minute but you expect that right?

What I didn't expect was the screaming tweaker woman and her husband who either beats the hell out of her when they're at home or is the most patient tweaker dude I've ever seen. They came in to file an accident report on behalf of their granddaughter who had wrecked their car. And the woman was already pissed off that she had to do this, or that she couldn’t share her list of ailments with the DMV lady who kept saying “Here’s the form, fill it out and come back.” Finally Screamy McGee got away from the counter and went to the area where you fill out forms. Right next to me.

If I wasn’t so sure this woman was making meth in her garage, I could’ve stolen her entire identity. Hell ANYONE in that DMV could have because she was just screaming everything she said and constantly screaming at her husband to stop talking, she couldn’t write and talk at the same time, oh my god shut up.

Of course to add to that were the crying babies and a dude with a prison tattoo (seriously this was hand done) that said Jah Rules and if he’d come any closer to me, I probably would’ve screamed because I know homeboy had fleas, or was at least harboring some serious funk.

The other thing shocking to me was the sheer amount of BAD INK that was being sported in that bitch. I’ve seen some shit tattoos before but these were just HUGE and ugly. And what is it with trees and the people here? Almost all the tats I saw, were of trees.

What the hell?

Then in the seats where I was, there were like four plain, normal, non standing out people. We all seemed to be clinging to this tiny island of normalcy in this sea of filthy agitated Chicoans at the world’s slowest DMV.

Good news is though, I have tags on my car, a new address in my life and I survived the Chico DMV, and as far as I can tell didn’t pick up any diseases while I was there. I will still be scrubbing with extra strength soap when I get home tonight though. Sheesh.

Out on the town

Last night was my friend Amber's last night here in Chico, so she took me out again and we went to a couple of the local "mall" eateries for drinks and appetizers and girly gossip, since no one knows when I'll be getting that in my life again, as I don't know ANYONE HERE! YAY!

We had a really great time and I'm really grateful to Amber for her help in my move and for keeping me company for a couple of days. Now comes the part I've been dreading, actually unpacking everything and getting on with that whole "life," thing. Should be a trip. But first a couple of pictures for all six of you reading this....
We were in fact, at Red Lobster.... trick. I love this sign though, because I'm wondering how this food was fresh from the sea. As I used to live next to a commercial fishing pier, I'm sort of a fresh fish snob. Sue me.

We did try a little of everything though

I've already had some of this beer at the Sierra Nevada Brewery where they make it. It's pretty good if you like wheat beers, which I do when I'm not drinking Newcastle or some other form of liquid bread. Unfortunately for you guys at home playing the "OMG I want everything Stephanie finds in Chico" home game, you can only get this beer with this label on it here in Chico. No worries, come visit me, I'll take you to the Brewery. It's one of four places that I actually can find without GPS.

(By the way the Brewery is near the Target and is HUGE, so it's kind of hard to miss, y'all.)

The Rawbar

My friend Amber is here helping me move into my new place and last night we went out to The Rawbar to celebrate my move.

I didn't try the tofu yet, I plan to though!

Eel!
Tuna, Salmon and Octopus

Lemongrass Lemondrop.

The Rawbar is very cute, very trendy, pretty resonable in price and right downtown. Speaking of my sushi obsession, last week I went to Gen Kai in Chico as well.

how did they get a picture of me at the Grad

I mean really? That game yesterday was a cluster and a half. Painful to watch. I think I might be breaking up with the Hawks until next year. Maybe....

i went home for the holidays

Sorry I haven't been posting, I was gone to see some family. So here are some images....

Me and two old school radio friends of mine The Real Bruce Wayne and Joe Brown

The parents

My cat Azriel who not only loves the Boston Red Sox, he also only loves my dad. Which is why he doesn't live with me.
Central Coast wines in the Valley.

My favorite self portrait as of late. This is another of my dad's cats, Cheddarbob who is a love whore and probably an allergists worst nightmare. This is also the blog debut of my new haircut from the lovely Erika at Cost Cutters in SLO.

A view from my home office

A few days ago I got DSL out at the old homestead which resulted in my needing to move my computer and rearrange some stuff. So I went ahead and reorganized my bulletin board/desk area as well.

You can see Hello Kitty/Sanrio figures pretty heavily into my office area. As well as music related keepsakes and photos. While the Giants calendar isn't mine, I didn't mind October at all, since it was the month that Brian Wilson was the featured player. (ha ha)

So what's your desk area like? What inspires you? Post a picture or just share a little. Let's call it audience participation....

Girly Weekend Sushi Fest

My friend Amber came to visit this weekend and we did the one thing we always do when she visits, and that's hit Sushiya in SLO hard.

This was the sake the waitress recommended to Amber. I don't drink sake so I skipped it.

Scallops!

Amber's Eel Nigiri

My yellowtail and salmon nigiri

Amber's octopus nigri. I'm kind of a wuss when it comes to eating anything with suckers on it though...

After a relaxing sushi lunch we got our nails done and then got dressed up and went out for cocktails. Sometimes I'm such a girl it's stupid. But alternately the next morning I put my Seahawks jersey on and went to watch them beat the Lions over at the Graduate. All in all it was a good weekend. I capped it off with the Teenage Bottle Rockets at Downtown Brew last night.

Today I'm meeting one of my other BFF's, Michael for some bonding time after work. It's looking like a decent week so far.

I'm your biggest fan, I'll follow you until you love me

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HELLO KITTY!!!

When I was a kid my grandma worked at the Broadway, which is what Macy's is now. That was my first exposure to Hello Kitty. They had a Sanrio stand in the juniors department and because of that I had Hello Kitty in my life for as long as I can remember.

Later after Grandma Awesome retired, Hello Kitty migrated to Long's Drug stores and eventually to her own (now defunct) store in the same mall where the Broadway was. I pretty much own Hello Kitty everything and I owe my friendship with this feline all to my Grandma. Much like my tuna recipe, my love for going to the "drug store" for fun and probably my love for Avila Beach.

My Awesome Mama D wants to take me to this: Hello Kitty 3 Apples. I might die of happy. I'm just sayin'...

Happy Birthday Kitty! I know you're not real (hello, I'm 30!) but thank you for always being a part of my life.

Amazing!

So my Seattle Seahawks not only pulled it together this weekend and won a game, it was in fact another shut out. Praise be. Let's all dance around.

Adding to it this little gem that occurred before the start of the game?

Freakin' AMAZING.

So let's just skip talking about the Red Sox taking a dump all over themselves Sunday morning. The wounds are still too fresh.

p.s. If any one knows how to make this blogger template hold videos, I'd be really excited. I shrank the video down to the smallest youtube allows and this template layout is still getting all blown out. I may have to change my layout.
