I love Morrissey, that's no joke. So to leave this song off this countdown would be absurd. "Irish Blood, English Heart" focuses on Morrissey's joint Irish/English heritage and was also his first single in over seven years when released. If you ever get a chance to see him in concert, do it. I took my dad a few years ago for Father's Day and it remains one of his favorite gifts! (You know, unless hell ever froze over and there was a Smiths reunion.)

Number 22 comes to us from Kings Cross, North London. The Pogues play pretty much the most Irish of Irish music. Shane MacGowan, the singer and songwriter of the group is a pretty wild guy and has a very interesting history. More recently he worked on a song with the Dropkick Murphys for their album "Blackout," and I'm sure that collaboration will see the light of day on this countdown before it's through.

24 and 23

So I failed at life yesterday and didn't post a video, which is good news for you actually because you get TWO today. Amazing, right? Isn't life grand?

Frankly I need to get my Irish music on right now as I am in the planning stages of my annual party, which let me say, never sucks.

Okay on with the music. Number 24 comes to us mostly from Boston, MA. The Lost City Angels music was introduced to me through a former roommate who I miss so much, but she's back on that side of the country. Anyway we had this epic adventure that kicked off with seeing Social Distortion on St Patrick's Day one year, that lead us to see these guys in Anaheim after seeing Flogging Molly the night before. Trust me it was a long weekend and I still am legally advised not to get into details. The point is that I saw these guys about 13 or 14 times over the next year and gave them a place to crash when they came through SLO with Guttermouth. While not all the boys in this band are of Irish heritage like myself, they make Boston styled punk rock about drinking and fighting and I think girls. Also they made a mean cocktail and fantastic asparagus.

In the same spirit (and another band I met because of LCA, ha ha) number 23 comes to us from the Dropkick Murphys. I love this band. And I can honestly tell you they're very cool guys in person. I have a feeling we'll be hearing from them again on this little countdown of mine.

So the countdown to St Patrick's Day continues. I love Sinead O'Connor. Most people just remember her as that bald chick who ripped up a picture of the Pope on Saturday Night Live and pissed off Frank Sinatra, but she's been making music since then, if you don't know. And it's brilliant. There's more to Sinead than "Nothing Compares 2 U"

Iggy and the Stooges Reveal Bonuses on “Raw Power” Box Set

Iggy and the Stooges’ 1973 classic Raw Power will be reissued April 27th as a Deluxe Edition box set complete with three discs worth of music featuring 15 previously unreleased bonuses — never-before-heard tracks, demos and remixes. One of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, Raw Power was the first Stooges album to feature James Williamson on guitar in place of the great Ron Asheton, who switched to bass. The LP spawned the punk anthems “Search and Destroy” and “Gimme Danger.” As Rolling Stone previously reported, the Stooges, who will be inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March, will celebrate their third album by performing the whole LP in concert.

The first disc of the box set will contain the newly remastered Raw Power, featuring David Bowie’s original mix for the album that was previously out of print, while the second disc boasts the Georgia Peaches bootleg, comprised of an unreleased soundboard recording of a 1973 concert the Stooges performed in Atlanta, Georgia. Two more unreleased songs will grace the second disc: An Iggy Pop/James Williamson-penned outtake called “Doojiman” and a rehearsal performance of “Head On.” The third disc features four more outtakes — “I’m Hungry,” “I Got a Right,” “I’m Sick of You” and “Hey, Peter” — and alternate mixes of four tracks: “Shake Appeal,” “Death Trip” “Gimme Danger” and “Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell.”

The Raw Power: Deluxe Edition box set also includes a new hour-long making-of Raw Power documentary, a 48-page photo book and a replica of the 1973 Japanese “Raw Power” 7” single. The box set will only be available through the Iggy and the Stooges Website.

Who Dat Nation!

Yeah, I blog a lot about the Seattle Seahawks, who are my team of choice. But in my family we also keep the Saints as our back up team. I mean hello, one of the guys playing for them has the same name as my dad. I have a lot of other personal reasons for giving the Saints mad love and respect. Drew Brees is a class act all the way around and I can't think of a quarterback I would have liked to see in a superbowl as much as my own, that isn't him. Also I'm just a little in love with Scott Fujita, politically. Seriously, he's almost the perfect man.

But there is more to it than all that.

When Hurricane Katrina happened I was home visiting my folks and I remember watching the storm start and my heart just sinking. It looked so flipping awful and I do have a handful of friends back there. I spent the next few weeks watching that city get first destroyed and then get redestroyed by shoddy relief efforts. I cried watching these images on television of Americans suffering in their own country and watching the people who were supposed to protect them, ignore them. I mean really, four days to get relief down there? Stupid. Short sighted. Wrong. Those are the gentlest words I can use.

About two years ago I saw the show No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain and he did a New Orleans episode and even still things down there aren't fixed completely. And it stirred up the same anger and sadness in me that watching the initial hurricane did.

It seems silly, especially if you don't follow sports how much the Saints mean to these people, especially this year. But it means everything to a lot of them. A good friend of mine is a huge Saints fan and he has family in Louisiana and is still angry, obviously, about how Katrina was handled. Yesterday was probably one of the happiest days he's had in a long time. He was on the phone with his family off and on through the game and it was pretty touching. Hell, I remember watching them reopen the Superdome a few years ago and just bawling, because the people there were so excited to have it back.

We partied. We had a blast. We cheered for the Saints. I cheered for an entire city of people who got hosed by Mother Nature a few years ago. I thought of you Louisiana. I thought of the people there.

And yeah, we drank a lot of beer too. There was that.
